The Probus movement started in the 1960's and grew out of the Rotary Club organization.

The Abertay Probus Club was formed at Forthill Sports Club, Broughty Ferry on Wednesday, 4th April, 1984 at 10.45 a.m, and is for men who have retired or who are semi-retired from a profession or business occupation.

All meetings are held on Wednesday mornings at Woodlands Hotel Broughty Ferry and we are gratful to Great Western Hotels for thei permission to use the hotel picture in our Web Site

Our aim to promote friendship and fellowship amongst members, and to arrange activities for their mutual benefit.

Many professions are represented by our membership which includes a very diverse range of  careers, occupations and vocations.

Visitors to this site who would like more information, are invited to contact the Webmaster or info@abertayprobus.org.uk and we can arrange to meet any interested party and enlighten him on the aims and history of PROBUS in general terms.

Probus Clubs are clubs for retired or semi-retired business or professional people. The movement operates worldwide.
In some places Rotary Clubs sponsor Probus Clubs, but many clubs are stand-alone entities.

Each Probus Club is autonomous. The club endeavours to be simple in structure, be free of the constraints and obligations of service clubs and involve members in a minimal cost. The club is directed primarily to providing fellowship between members who are compatible with each other, and the opportunity for development of acquaintance. Many Probus Clubs are restricted to men, but some clubs have, since the introduction of the Equality Act 2010 in the UK, started to become mixed and some are women only. It is normal for the spouses of club members and widows of former members to be encouraged to participate in the social activities
